MILWAUKEE — Former President Donald Trump delivered a powerful closing speech at the Republican National Convention, emphasizing unity and healing in the wake of a recent assassination attempt that left him injured. The event, marked by a large bandage on his right ear, served as a poignant reminder of the violence he faced, galvanizing the Republican base just months before the election.

“I’m not supposed to be here tonight,” Trump declared, prompting enthusiastic chants from the crowd. His speech, lasting over 90 minutes, became the longest acceptance address in history, showcasing his determination and resilience.

Trump’s remarks shifted from a somber recounting of the attack to a rallying cry against his political adversaries. He criticized “Crazy Nancy Pelosi” and mocked the media, while asserting that Democrats had cheated in elections and labeling President Biden as the worst in history. He painted a dire picture of the nation's current state, citing crises in inflation, illegal immigration, and international affairs.

In a moment of reflection, Trump honored Corey Comperatore, a rally attendee who lost his life during the shooting, highlighting the bravery of those who stood by him. He expressed gratitude for the support he received, stating, “I stand before you in this arena only by the grace of almighty God.”

Trump extended an olive branch to skeptics, urging all Americans to join him in restoring the American Dream. He pledged to lower energy costs by increasing domestic drilling and promised to complete the border wall, emphasizing a commitment to national security.

While Trump refrained from directly naming Biden, others at the convention pointed fingers at the current administration for the nation’s woes. The atmosphere throughout the week was one of solidarity, with various speakers praising Trump’s leadership and resilience.

The convention not only showcased Trump’s unwavering influence within the Republican Party but also underscored his ability to unite supporters in the face of adversity. With polls indicating a solid lead for Trump in battleground states, the party appears reinvigorated as it heads into the election season.
